MAINE

This is a change from being dependent on fishing, agriculture, and trade. Massachusetts, today, however, has shifted from manufacturing to services. Massachusetts is now well known for it being a leader in higher education, health care technology, high technology, and financial services. 

CONNECTICUT

The State of Connecticut is located in the northeastern region of the United States. It is bordered by Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New York, and Long Island Sound. 

The first European settlers of Connecticut were from Dutch origin. Then English settlers came about. Connecticut was one of the Thirteen original colonies that stood up against the British force. Connecticut features the highest per capita income, Human Development Index, and median house hold income in the United States. 

NEW JERSEY

New Jersey is a state in the US that is located in the Northeastern. New Jersey is surrounded by Pennsylvania and Delaware. Although it is the 4th smallest state, it is the 11 most populous one out of all the states in the United States. In addition, the state of New Jersey is the second wealthiest state based on the median household income. 

New Jersey has plenty of history. The Dutch and the Swedes were the first ones to make European settlements in the 17th century. Then, the English took control of the region. In the 19th Century, New Jersey played an important role in the Industrial Revolution
Today, New Jersey is home to more scientists and engineers per square mile than anywhere else in the world.


DELAWARE

The state of Delaware is located next to Maryland, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. It was named after an English Nobleman named Thomas West, 3rd Baron De la Warr. Even though Delware is the second smallest state in the United States, it is the sixth most densely populated.

Out of its three counties, New Castle, Kent, and Sussex, two of them have always been predominantly agricultural while New Castle County has been more industrialized. 

Delaware is often referred to as the first state, since it was the first state of what would become the Untied States, to ratify the constitution in December 7 1787.


VIRGINIA

Virginia is a state located in the Atlantic region of the United States. Virginia is an interesting state in terms of its political history as many of the previous US presidents have been born there. Virginia used to be home to the Powhatan, but in 1607, the London Company established the first permanent colony, known as the Colony of Virginia.

Virginia continues to play an important role as it is home of the CIA and the Department of Defense. With time, it has switched from an agricultural foundation to an industrial and now to a technological foundation as it is an important exporter of computer chips.

NORTH CAROLINA

North Carolina is a state that is part of the United States and it is a neighboring state with South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee and Virginia.  North Carolina is one of the most populous states in the United States. In terms of size, North Carolina is the 28th most extensive state in the united states. Interestingly, North Carolina is made up of 100 counties. 

While in the past, North Carolina's economy relied extensively in tobacco, fabric for clothing, and furniture, a new ball game is now in circulation. Today, North Carolina has a more diversified economy that covers energy, biotechnology, and finance.

SOUTH CAROLINA

South Carolina is a state in the Southeastern part of the United States that has North Carolina and Georgia. South Carolina is well known as having a slave society, with the majority of its population being slaves that were born in Africa. South Carolina also has plenty of history regarding the formation of the United States, as it was one of the first 13 colonies to get Independence from the British Empire.

South Carolina has several important outputs, including tobacco, poultry, cattle, dairy, soybeans, hay, rice, and swine. However, South Carolina is also home to many large corporations, such as Boeing, Domtar, SCANA, Sonoco Products, and ScanSource.
